Ikea - good people made up for uncaring policy

My daughter bought and stored a Kongsvik double bed at my house and moved to Calif, suggesting we now use the bed. Except all the instructions and parts were missing. Ikea offers no way to identify or track parts online, even though each item's list is obviously digitized and on file somewhere. You may only go to a store and you have no way of knowing whether that store has what you need. Our email got a "Good luck and drop dead" reply. Since the only alternative would be to throw out a brand new Ikea bed, we did drive an hour to Ikea and wait in line for help. The staff, fortunately, were sincerely working to help us. First problem - the bed, as named, is not being sold any more so the rep could not locate a parts list. You may think you can figure out the parts by looking at the holes - forget it. No hardware store in the universe carries what you need, just Ikea. That would have sunk us except that another rep with all of 3 years on the job recalled that the identical bed in a different color and with a different name is still being sold. Without his institutional knowledge we would have been extremely unhappy customers. With that name, a parts list was located and a new bag of stuff assembled and provided at no cost. The bed is up! So - on the plus side: - Caring instore staff who pay attention, use ingenuity and support each other to help a customer. - Complete and no-cost solution to a problem I admittedly caused myself. On the negative side: - Needlessly confusing naming and renaming of identical products erasing built in institutional knowledge. - Lack of online resources, when clearly your inventory and catalog must be fully digitized and should be made available to your customers. - Willingness to let a customer suffer several hundred dollars of loss for lack of a few dollars worth of hardware. - Lack of internet or phone connection to the source of solutions at the store - the only way to speak to them was to drive to them. - Your completely unhelpful and uncaring email. My bottom-line impression - thank goodness the store staff care about people and will go the extra mile, because Ikea corporate really sees us as *** and disposable sheep and wouldn't lift a finger to help.

Ikea has no customer service

ikea is the most ridiculous company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Their policy is simply not to compensate consumers regardless of their mistreatment. After many trips to pick up defective merchandise and waiting in lineups for hours to pick up merchandise, I was insulted when the manager offered me a 10$gift card...can you imagine how insulting that is! I was even phoned to come and pick up merchandise only to arrive and find that there was nothing there for me. I have since spent hours on their phone lines trying to seek some kind of justice!

I purchased some lights at Ikea USA for about $50.00. I took care to save the receipt and the original package and all the contents. About 10 days after I purchased the light I attempted to return it at the Sunrise Florida store. I was told by the girl at the return...

I was treated badly at Philadelphia ikea, because irefused to allow them to copy my personal information into their database.

The rule states that you should present a photo ID and i presented Govement photo ID with no address and date of birth and the refused saying that the ID has to be a drivers license.

Which I made a lot of noise until they accepted the ID I had presented.

Ikea return desk employee are rude and discriminates a lot.

Do not make the same mistake that I made by purchasing this junk from IKEA (which I think is Swedish for uncomfortable), cost about a grand with delivery. The slatted base with that beam down the middle flexes in such a way that it puts pressure on the mid section of...

I have had a similar and terrible experience today trying to get IKEA to mail me a 2-cent plastic screw that was not in the package delivered. After 40 minutes on the phone -- 4 phonecalls because 1 person forwarded me to an answering maching, one person hung up on me because I had been forwarded to her during her lunch, one person refused to let me talk to anyone but her -- Tiffany -- and told me she was a manager and she wasn't interested in bettering IKEA's service and a fourth person who finally did what was necessary to send me the screw but said it would take 10-14 business days.

I too will NEVER shop IKEA again.

I will go to home depot and see if I can find a similar screw and IKEA has seen the last of me. I wonder if they'll ever even mail my piece.

I have noticed that most people who complain about Ikea didn't assemble their furniture properly.

Much of my house is outfitted with Ikea stuff. It looks great and it's sturdy as ***. My only complaint about Ikea is the quality of their pint glasses, but they were so inexpensive it would be silly to whine about it.

Asking for some help would have saved you a great deal of trouble. Even as a stocky 30-year old man, I would not have tried putting that stuff together alone. Once I got used to it though, it wasn't a problem. I put my new bed frame together in about two hours, and after the repeated "breakings-in" a certain lady and I have given it, I can assure you, madam, that bed is not going to fall apart any time soon.

Ikea - return policy on bedding

I tried to return a Kilan 102 x 110" brown bedspread to Ikea in San Diego, CA that partially melted in my Fischer & Paykel dryer (on normal heat as suggested on the tag) and they would not refund my money or offer a replacement. The Loss Prevention Manager said "it was not a quality issue". She claimed that the bedspread melted because it was crammed into my dryer. I explained that none of my other cal-king bedspreads have melted in my dryer before, why now?! The polyester fibers inside the bedspread melted and cracked rendering the bedspread useless so I left it at the store so they could dispose of the trash they sold me.

Rob, you obviously did not read my posting above (on normal heat as suggested on the tag) or you would not have jumped to an obviously biased and idiotic assumption! Get some glasses.

Boo hoo. I'd give 50-1 odds you threw it in the dryer without looking at the care instructions, and I'd give 100-1 odds that you wouldn't admit it anyway.

Ikea service defies description

what should have been £500 worth of bedroom furniture and a day of van hire, turned into 300 miles of driving to three different stores on three days, nearly £1000 total cost, 3 days of van hire and more telephone calls than I can list. From the start, the service from Ikea staff was dreadful. Their wardrobe 'specialist' apparently doesn't know that you need hinges to hold doors on. Their warehouse staff supplied totally the wrong goods and their in-store staff didn't know where anything was. The next day, their telephone support staff located the correct replacement goods in a store 50 miles away, but couldn't reserve items for us, despite it being their fault we had the wrong things in the first place. So we drove to the store and waited 40 minutes for 'customer services' only to be told the items were only for collection from their warehouse which wouldn't be open for another 3 days. Staff throughout were rude, unhelpful and arrogant. Absolutely the worst nightmare and rest assured that if Ikea offered me a Bentley for £100 I wouldn't go anywhere near it.
