Buying furniture in IKEA - cheap quality and service

Cheap prices but cheap quality and cheap service as well. Too many employee, they do nothing, just talk in groups, at the same time only half of the return stations have an employee. The stocks of furniture parts are messed up – nobody cares to fix it. I try to buy a bed. I matched numbers on the list and stock shelves. One part was defective (I figured it out myself before paying), another – with wrong part number from another shelf. The casher and the store system did not recognize that parts are from different sets. I had to drive back about 1 hour and wait 45 min in long line to return. I would not recommend going to IKEA store in Schaumburg, IL

IKEA broken furniture

I bought 2 dressers and one sofa bed from Ikea between octobor and november of 2009. They are all broken by Octobor 2009!!! The drawer of one dressor is broken into pieces, and the other dressor's drawer has difficulty to fit in! Recently, the beam of my lovely sofa bed is broken into two pieces, although I am only 150Ibs! I did not realize until now that the furnitures from IKEA only serve couple of months!!!! Do never buy any furniture from IKEA! Their furnitures seems to be cheap to buy, but they are very expensive to use!!! I wasted about $400 less than one year!!!!

Hello?!?!? I have been to my local Ikea several times.

Why don't I buy their furniture? Cuz it's cheap.

My local Target has better quality furniture, and that's not saying much. You get what you pay for...

Ikea is over priced anyway. Take a look at their office furniture, then go to Staples or Office Depot and save $$.

Ikea in Quakertown, Pennsylvania - Nazi return policy to go with Nazi store

I recently went to the closest ikea store 40 miles away. I needed to buy a few items to finish a kitchen remodeling job. While I was there I tried to return an item that was bought online. They would not accept the return because it was purchased online and there way nothing they could do. Any other store would have no problem with a return. I stormed out of the store so they could not take any more of my money. When I did I was attacked by they loss prevention manager. The stores are more communist now than they ever were. Lawsuit pending!

Do not shop at IKEA! Boycott IKEA!

IKEA is not a good place to work or shop! The store in Houston, TX is a good example of a toxic work environment! The coworkers are bullied and treated like slaves. The Recovery/As-Is manager is a liar and a bully!

Defective returned products are sent back to stock! Items that are on Quality that should be trashed are sold in As-Is. It's all about the money! The poor customer service at IKEA is because IKEA has a bully culture!

Who can or cares to do a good job when they are bullied? The turnover is very high because people do not like to be treated like slaves! I have seen customers bullied and intimidated especially by the Recovery Manager! Boycott IKEA!

It is *** to work at IKEA Houston! If you don't like to be bullied or don't like coworkers to be bullied do not shop at IKEA! Report IKEA to the BBB, Attorney General, News Media, and or a Consumer Group! They are afraid of unions, lawsuits, and bad publicity!

Poor customer service happens in a bully culture!

Don't expect to see happy smiling faces or to get help! Bullies are in control!

If you feel the stores of Ikea are of a communist sort, why does the head line emphasize Nazism and not communism?

Ikea - Worse store is in carson, california!

I thought I was the only one who felt that Ikea lacks customer service. I felt Bullied for asking them to show me how to work a supposed adjustable chair that wouldn't adjust for me. The Customer Service Guy said he didn't know but couldn't refund my money unless the chair was defective. HELLO! If it wont adjust and it's supposed to adjust, IT's DEFECTIVE!!!! the customer service rep asked for the next customer and told me to move out of the way so he could help her. I haven't shopped there since and have encouraged all of my friends and family to also stop shopping there.

Ikea in Tampa, Florida - Poor employee attitude

I will not return to Ikea. Employees are rude and not helpful. The store makes you trudge for miles to use the restromm. When I made a small complaint about noone helping me I was told, "The week-ends are busy." They are not too busy to take my money, are they? It was the type of rotten attitudes that you receive in France. I had 2 full baskets w/large items and they told me I could look around the parking lot to get help loading my car!! Was I suppose to drag the 2 carts as I look for help?

Eh? I would rather crawl naked through a minefield littered with broken glass and hot coals including a swarm of killers bee's at large, rather than cross the threshold of an IKEA store ...EVER!

Wow, I am really shocked at all of the complaints here. I have only heard great things about Ikea until I googled Ikea complaints just to see and add mine.

I went to the Ikea in South Fl and I was yelled at because I walked into the restaurant the wrong way to try their meatballs. I was yelled at by the cashier saying excuse me!!!, excuse me!!! and everyone was staring at me. What a bi#tc**

Then upon checkout I was going to split the bill with 2 credit cards one being mine and my boyfriends. Which many stores to that and its really easy.

She tells me she cant. So I told her well then your gonna have to void everything and return it cause that is my budget. She then says well I will have to call my manager and it will take time. Ok, I said.

The manager comes and presses 1 button and presto took 5 seconds. No sorry, or I did not know that.

So bad!!!

Don't think I will ever go back unless I am desperate.

Ikea - Customer Service run around makes you give up

Do not purchase from Ikea unless you have a store in your area. Online and telephone assistance is a waste. They are quite useless and will simply wear you out with run-around and inability to perform. Very polite and apologetic. The company is simply not interested in retaining customers. The Nyland shoe cabinets have plastic compartments that are screwed in place behind each drawer/door. The plastic cracks and then you are simply out of luck. For those fortunate enough to have this problem within 90 days of purchase, good news, there is a 90 day warranty. Of course, you must visit the store to get replacement parts. What a joke.

IKEA have recently opened in Dublin Ireland. They (or agents) delivered an IKEA catelogue to our residence in s soaking wet state and in complete disregard to our 2 notices that state: NO UNSOLICITED MATERIAL PLEASE.

Most companys in Dublin that practice a direct marketing strategy comply politely. Not IKEA though, we contacted to complain and the attitude was most disrecpectful and arrogant. Customer service is run by automatons. It seems the IKEA policy is to frustrate and eventually discourage complaints.

I dug in my heels, got tough and adopted a "They wont break me" approach and in fact, I broke them after many phone calls and a persistance that puzzled them. I attacked on a number of fronts and rattled thier cage. Eventually, I got them to reimburse me for my time and expense. I also warned them that I will seek a court injunction preventing them from depositing unsolicted material at our address and this I will do just to put manners on them.

I would never use IKEA for anything. They are putting smaller retailers who offer good service and care about customers in jeopardy.

IKEA are too big and too bad. Screw them!

Ikea..people, havent u ever heard...u get what u pay 4!

love Ikea....if I wanted real quality that would cost me a pretty penny and last a lifetime, I would shop else where! Filled my place with tons of candles and pictures today. Are you people really complaing about a table that falls apart after you only pay 29.95 ....give me a break! Shopping @ Ikea is like going to Mcdonalds for dinner. You cant complain about the condition your stomach is in after you chose to stuff that Big Mac down your throat. Take responsibilty for your own actions! Ikea....keep up the good work;-) Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah!

Amen to that. Some of their stuff is nice, I like their real wood shelving.

But other things are made of junk particle board, covered in tacky finishes, and requiring much screwing together to assemble. If you want quality, esp for bigger pieces, try second-hand and 'antique'stores. Back in the day, everything was made of real wood, and made to last. A lot of it's going cheap because people don't have space, or want something lightweight and portable.

Or 'modern' looking.

But you're absolutely right, people get what they pay for. (Same with 'service'- if they can afford to sell furniture cheap, they're not spending money on top-of-the-line materials and they're not paying employees much.

IKEA is full of it... Folks need to file a lawsuit agains their ambiguous return policy.

I purchased a book shelf for a room. Got it home, put two small pieces together... #1 the instructions are not customer friendly and easy to follow, as they claim... #2 the color did not match to my taste the other furniture in the room.

I repacked the few things that were taken out of the box. Because the store would be closed by the time I get back there, I went the next day. Too my surprised and uproar, I was told that a instore credit would be given, because the the purchase is not in its original packaging... and that it was used...

I could not believe this rediculous ambiguous policy. I spent $180.00 on this bookshelf, and therefore wanted my money back on my card, not some instore credit. I don't shop at IKEA for that. If it was $20.00 or something, I wouldn't have mind the instore credit.

I then asked to speak to the manager. Some lady came over, and then some guy came over, who was claiming to be the manager on duty. Neither gave me a satisfactory answer. I then asked to speak to the store manager.

She was not in, but I was given her number. So I left a message, and followed up with another call the next day. She replied of being informed about the matter with the folks that I spoke to... She took their position.

I replied that this is unacceptable, and further action would be taken. She asked me was I threatening her. I replied of course, no, but further action would be taken. I called the corporate office and could not get through to a live person besides the operatior.

I left a message for someone to call me in 24 hours. The IKEA Receipt does not say anything about an instore credit. The term "original packaging" is ambiguous... and so is "not used".

There was no large posted sign that says anything about an instore credit...How can companies get away with this... What happened to customer service? In my belief, it pure greed, especially in difficult economic times. I plan to fight this to the top, and get what is justly due back to me.

This is my hard earned money... The merchandise is brand new. It can be resold.

IKEA Customers beware. Let's stick together and hold this company accountable for the unfair greedy practices.
