Ikea is dreadful
I purchased an Ikea bed for my daughter in late 2007. The headboard snapped off recently. The break occurred where the headboard is drilled for the assembly screws, an obvious design flaw. Upon calling Ikea I learned the following: 1.) The bed is not under warranty. 2.) The color I have is discontinued. 3.) They MIGHT a replacement headboard in the service area but they won't verify this over the phone, I have to make a two hour drive in order for someone to look for the part. I don't expect premium quality furniture from Ikea, but I do expect a bed to last more than two years and I certainly expect better service than I received. I'm done with Ikea and I will do my best to convince others to avoid them.
Ikea in Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi - 11 Days for Delivery???
Dear IKEA I have purchased ~5000 AED valued furniture on 15/01/2010 from Ikea Abu Dhabi. I asked for the delivery&assembly of the pax wardrobe+ kullen 5 drawers chest (~2600 AED). I was appointed 26th? 11 days duration. After my request date was improved to 24th. Still after 9 days. How many trucks/staff you have? Lots of people are moving to Abu Dhabi now. I wish I had gone to Ikea Dubai or Home Centre. I pity for the hours I spent while choosing the furniture. You have a serious problem in your logistics. Optimum time for the delivery should be 2-4 days. This is not a free delivery but a insufficient service. I was given the option to go for a private company for 400 AED If I want it fast. Are you doing this on purpose? Do you have special pact with that company sharing some money? Ikea is giving fancy advertisements but poor service. I still want to believe that there are some common-sensed manager out there and earn back a good customer by reading/evaluating this message and setting my appointment to a closer date. Until then I will sent this message to every level of Ikea that I can. Regards Tolga Candan Civil Engineer, M.Sc.
Ikea in Scottsdale, Arizona - Confusing advertising
I made a trip to IKEA specially to buy a special offer cabinet, when i got there I took an aluminum colored one, but the cashier told me that one was not in sale, only the white ones, I couldn't find that remark in the advertising I received and the cashier was very rude and he told me they were out of stock already (it was 11 am in the morning, how cuould that happen??!!) I WAS PISSED and left all of the other stuff I was going to buy..! I guess that't their trick they advertise very good deals, but suddenly they are "out of stock" and you end up buying all other stuff you really didn't go there for.
IKEA Delivery stole my watch
I live in Shanghai, China. I've ordered more than EUR10K from IKEA in Shanghai in last few months. On New Year's eve I received a delivery around 10.30pm they were late and it was cold. In China it is customary to remove your shoes to prevent trudging dirt inside your home. I felt sorry for these two guys delivering all this stuff, late at night and on New Year's eve - so I didn't ask them to remove their shoes. When they left I tipped them and said goodnight. As we have a young child and were tired my wife and I went to bed shortly after midnight. We all woke up late the next morning to discover one of the workmen's footprints in the living room, a room he had no business being in - and where I had left my watch (an item of great sentimental and high monetary value) on a table. One of them had stolen it! I reported the case to the police who came and took pictures of the guy's footprint. I called IKEA and they asked for the police report and promised to tell me what they would do in 3 days. It's been double that time and despite many calls I am yet to speak to the store manager. Apparently this is not important enough for him/her to even call me... IKEA is a store that I used to think highly and is now one that disgusts me...well done to IKEA customer service and the lazy Shanghai manager...
IKEA's Shoddy Products and Terrible Return Policy
I recently purchased roughly $1,500 worth of furniture from IKEA. One of the items purchased was a two seater leather couch which I paid $400 for. I had it and all other items delivered to my home because I could not transport them on my own. After only two months of using the couch, the front wooden beam broke for no apparent reason while my wife was sitting on it. Neither of us is overweight, we have no kids an no pets. We did not abuse the couch in anyway and we have been the only two people to use it during the time we owned it. When I called customer service, I spoke to the supervisor who told me that in order for them to consider refunding the purchase, I would need to bring the couch into a local store at my own expense. Even then, they could not guarantee that they would issue a refund. I would have had to spend between $50 and $100 just to get the couch to the store, and even if I did, they could say that it wasn't their fault and deny a return. The supervisor was also very rude and childish, saying "I don't work in Sweden and I don't make the policies" when I expressed frustration with what I view as an unfair and customer unfriendly policy. The experience has made me realize that IKEA's furniture is cheap because it is poor quality and is ideal only for students or people who move a lot and throw away their furniture. I will never shop at IKEA again because of this experience and have recommended the same to my friends and family. "Cheap" furniture is not cheap if you have to replace it every 2 months!
Ikea's misleading return policy
I purchased a couch cover at Ikea in E. Palo Alto, CA. When I came home to put it on my couch, I realized that it doesn't fit. I went back to the store and waited more than an hour for my number at the return/exchange counter to be called. When I put my merchandise on the counter, the customer service woman asked me if I had a pet, looking at me like I did a crime. I found out that I couldn't return the merchandise because the package had been opened. How could I try it if I didn't open the package? The store manager named Ulices came and I showed him that the merchandise was in great shape, never been used, not dirty, nor abused (as mentioned on the return policy) and yet, he would not take back my merchandise. It cost me $170 and incrimination.
I purchased an IKEA Kullen Wardrobe a few weeks ago and I am still having problems. I wanted to give a disclosure for anyone who is thinking about purchasing the wardrobe. My goal is to dissuade you, and if I am not convincing, then to give you enough information so...
Dear Ikea, I almost went to Goodwill, ALMOST. But I needed a specific size and just didn't have the time to dig around. So I went to Ikea to find that large, square frame. And lo! Ikea of Burbank had one, just as my fevered dreams had imagined! 17" x 17",...
The Ikea store in Massachusetts refuses to provide electric carts for handicapped customers. They provide wheelchairs so that a person with a disability becomes dependent on someone to push them around the store. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was written so...
My girlfriend's grandmother bought her a dresser for about $300. IKEA delivered it for an extra $50. When we opened the box, 2 of the pieces were broken. We drove to the store and returned the pieces. They replaced them. So much for the delivery! We went back to...
