Ikea in Fairfield, Connecticut - Misleading delivery dates and lousy service

Went to buy a sofa and bed at Ikea in New Haven CT and could not even get any sales help. Foolish me I went home and ordered it off the web and was given a delivery date. When the delivery company called to schedule the delivery I was told they don't even deliver on the date given on the web site. When I asked why they said "deal with it" or cancel. I am still trying to get Ikea on the phone as it's a separate company but no luck there either. Guess they don't like keeping customers happy or care about sales.

Ikea in Medfield, Massachusetts - DON'T BUY FROM HERE...

Furniture is nice looking but if very very very cheap...it's not worth the dime you pay for it. Customer service is awful they don't try and make a customer whole with damage poor quality furniture. Please don't waste your money and buy from here...this place is not worth it...you will not be happy once you receive your furniture and put it together its shows how cheap it is by breaking within the first year of normal usage. Please stay away...spend a little extra and it will last much longer. I purchase an ikea full size bedframe which upon putting it together the wood split...it was very cheap and I wasn't happy with the quality. After the bed was finished the wood used to hold the mattress always slides out from underneath the bed and it's a pain to keep fixing it. Don't buy from here...save yourself the stress.

IKEA Charlotte - expected satisfaction turned DIS-satisfaction

I was visiting (from South Africa) my daughter in Raleigh, N.C. a few weeks ago. We drove 3 hrs to Charlotte - excited about the Ikea shopping at 'THE END OF THE ROAD'. Being from Denmark I expected nothing less from Ikea than absolutely top friendly customer service - as it always is in Scandinavia. One of the items I bought was a Ruther swivel chair. At first I couldn't find it, when we wanted to check out, but a not so friendly sales assistant found it for me. When we got back home late that evening I realised, that I only bought the top part of the chair, had not seen that the swivel part was in a separate box. Phoned Ikea's "FRIENDLY CUSTOMER SERVICE" next morning, 3 calls - all with long waiting - asking if Ikea could add the swivel part to a service order of other items, we already had paid for, to be delivered 2 days later. No, NOT possible - I had to go to the store & pick up myself. I tried to explain that would not be possible for me. Still got a negative reply. Tried to buy the swivel online myself - but could only buy both parts of the chair. I then wrote to the online "contact us - friendly customer service" and explained. NO response. Wrote again - same story. I have now left the US - but am still waiting for Ikea, Charlotte's response. I am really pissed off with such bad service from Ikea - which used to be the pride of all Scandinavians...

You are absolutely right! Ikea charlotte has the most irresponsible customer service!

They don't reply to your calls and messages left. You have to go there which sometimes is very inconvenient.

IKEA never delivers and refuses to explain

After choosing a chair and footstool at the Charlotte IKEA store my husband and I tried to pick it up, pay and leave. After spending over 1 hour locating, waiting for, and explaining what we needed to the "customer service" person in the pick up area, we learned that the footstool was out of stock and could not be paid for until it was in stock. Furthermore, we would be required to pay in advance for the chair, hope the footstool came into stock, then drive the 1 hour each way BACK to IKEA to pay (again, in advance) for the footstool if and when it ever showed up in stock. After calling for a few days the footstoll was back in stock, I drove all the way there to pay for it, and was told both pieces would be ready for pick up in 1 week or less -- they were supposedly in the SC facility. Well, here it is a month later and no chair, no ottoman, and every time I call IKEA for answers they have no idea and can not/will not provide any, much less realistic, delivery dates. I feel like I am stuck in the movie the MOney Pit "It will be here in two weeks! Two weeks! Two weeks!". I will call my credit card company in the morning to dispute the charges for non-delivery and get my refund that way. These people are inance, borderline fraudulent, and while they may have manufacture or cheap furinture under control, they are impossible to deal with and highly hypocritical of the so-called green philosophy they trumpet at every possible moment. Truly, this company is terrible and unless I am buying 100 tea lights for $1 or cheap paper napkins, I will never buy anything from this company ever again. Beware.

IKEA failed to deliver / order / respond

Never order custom worktops from IKEA Bristol and expect them to actual be delivered or even produced ... I have had appallingly bad service from them in every possible way and on every possible occassion ... here's the saga: 10 July trip to IKEA Bristol to order kitchen & worktops ... worktops are outsourced - estimated contact date to arrange delivery - 10 August 13 August - still haven't heard about worktops (although rest of kitchen delivery already arranged for 19 Aug) so I call IKEA Bristol ... "Oh, they are in the shop waiting for delivery" I am told but the first possible date is 31 August (there was no response to my question of why they hadn't contacted me if the worktops were ready - I should have been suspicious then) Kitchen was delivered and again I should have been suspicious because I had had 3 texts from the delivery company about the kitchen delivery (- ho hum it's easy to be wise in hindsight) Last Friday, 27 August I get a 'courtesy' call from DHL to let me know that there will be no delivery on the 31st (day after bankholiday) as there is nothing to deliver. I call IKEA who know nothing about this, on no wait, there was a note entered earlier today (still the 27th Aug) that the order had not arrived at the shop. But surely, i say, it must have, otherwise why had a delivery been arranged? We will have to look into it - but its a bank holiday weekend - oh thats OK we still work (?) as normal; you will be called back within 12 hours 28th August - no call (who'd have guessed) so I called IKEA Bristol again. Oh there's no record of your call. Pardon? And the delivery? Actually, according to this person there's no record of anything except the original order - oh well maybe a delivery had been arranged but ... I insist on speaking to someone a bit higher up the food chain but this is impossible - a manager/supervisor will call you back within 12 (working?) hours and here's a reference number (gee thanks) 29th August - no call back so I call again - its been referred to another department and they will call (well, at least there's a record of something) 30 August - they didn't call- perhaps they don't work as normal on Bank Holidays. Tomorrow is another day and I will update this post then ...

Ikea in Toronto, Ontario - Could not return defective furniture

I bought a buffet or as IKEA named it "side board" which I liked, and it worked for 5 years. Last few months the cabinet buckled under its own weight and it became worped at the bottom. I tried to return it and of course they told me that the furniture has no such long warranty. But should anyone spend $400-500 for furniture that colapses under its own weight? They answered that under no circumstances I would not get a refund from them. IKEA is not backing its own product. IKEA HAS BAD QUALITY ITEMS AND I AM NOT GOING TO TAKE A CHANCE TO BUY ANYTHING AT IKEA AGAIN.

uh, yeah, i agree........ i work in retail and i have NEVER EVER heard of a company that will let you return something after 5 years.

almost anything can break after 5 years, thats just ridiculous. most places offer 30-90days AT BEST.

if you think that Ikea was in the wrong over this then i have to tell you that i doubt any company is going to satisfy your unrealistic expectations of customer service.... not to mention that Ikea specializes in modular/cheap/build it yourself furniture...not high end lifelong purchases

Limit yourself to bed coverings, rugs, curtains, kitchen ware and so on and you won't have to worry about things falling apart. It's really easy for me to see when I visit Ikea, to limit myself to the above, NEVER buy the furniture and beds, etc.

Why would anyone expect an Ikea couch for instance, to stay together for 10 years? No way. Even a couch I bought from a known retailer (expensive) fell apart after ten years. Stuff isn't made to last that long anymore.

It's called 'planned obsolesence'. Google it.

Your request makes no sense whatsoever.

You seriously expected to return furniture after five years? A sideboard isn't going to be just fine for five years and then "suddenly" buckle and collapse, and you certainly cannot blame them for not refunding your money after that amount of time.

IKEA, should we pay for your mistake?

In July, I purchased a beech dining table called NORDEN with a time-limit discount in IKEA Nanjing (China) shop. After it was delivered to my house, I found I can't assemble the table. Later, Ikea admit the table has problems due to their mistake. but, then Ikea declared they have stoped selling this table, so they can't repair or replace. The only thing they can do is refund -- only selling price, they said "you can choose another table with the money in our shop". I asked them, where's my time-limit discount, disappeared? Yes, according to Ikea law, we only refund your selling price, without time-limit discount! Thus IKEA!!! Now I find, in fact, the table is still on sale in many shop of Ikea such as their Germay、UK、Italy shops. I can give a link here: http://www.ikea.com/de/de/catalog/products/50116871 Ikea, you cheat me! Whethere you always cheat chinese people or cheat peoples all over the world? I do not want to pay for your mistake. Whether I will win under unsound Chinese law system, I will sue you, Ikea! It's my right!

Ikea in Washington, District Of Columbia - No phone number direct to local store.

I am extremely dissatisfied with Ikea's customer service. I am attempting to purchase some furniture for my daughter who is in college in Minneapolis, and wanted to arrange delivery directly from their Twin Cities location. I called the number on the website, which put me in an endless loop of prompts. When I finally got a representative on the phone, they told me that there was no way to contact the store directly - who does business like that? You mean to tell me that there is not a manager or customer service representative onsite to deal with customer issues? They have lost my business!

Ikea direct, extremely user unfriendly

Seldom complain about my shopping experience. But this time I was really pissed off by Ikdea direct (i.e., buying online). When I tried to place an order, I first got an error. After retry it seemingly succeeded. But I couldn't see any order information in my account. No emails either. A few days later, I saw my credit card got charged so I thought the order must be good. But about 1 week later, I got a missed call from an IKEA direct agent saying the order was not through and was asked to call an 800 number. I called the 800 number and couldn't get through after 20 minutes! Don't they have a priority line to help customers who have already paid and whose order was not through!! I don't even know what to do with my dangling order! Worst online shopping experience ever in my life.

IKEA - Direct contact details and allegations of racism and corruption(?)

IKEA has affordable products, but their Customer Service sucks. If their product is chipped, good luck sending it back. Since it's impossible to get anything resolved in your favor, reach Senior Management by the following email - --- First name(dot)last name @memo.ikea.com ---- Below are a couple of links that I found on the company culture - shocking! Your issue has nothing to do with racism. If you don't agree with the company's leadership, don't buy their products.
