IKEA service on appliances under warranty

Had to use A & E Factory Service - unethical, lying technician refused to provide service unless I paid for it, after making me wait ALL day for service call, then he insisted I was not under warranty , which is false, I have a 5 year warranty, receipt of purchase 2 years ago! He tried to put words in my mouth and said he was cancelling the service because I "refused to pay". I said I did not say that, he refused service because he incorrectly insisted I was not under warranty. and said he didn't appreciate my sarcasm! Company now says I have to call IKEA again, I have to reschecdule service appt. again. Avoid them!

Update by user Nov 22, 2011

I received a call from a customer service manager at Ikea this morning and she apologized for my trails and tribulations. I really appreciated her professional but kind manner.

She is arranging a replacement of my duvet. Further, she said she felt my case would...

Same thing happened to me with my return. Except I had recept but didn't have right credit card and for purchase less than $15 they would not help me.

I waited 1 hour in line and 40min with manager and no apology. Everything is my problem.

Bad, BAD CUSTOMER service. One of the worst stores.

Ikea in San Francisco, California - No quality control -sizing not the same

After careful consideration I purchased a bathroom vanity (Godmorgon series) from Ikea. I had a 48" cavity to fill and purchased the sink top and 4 drawer vanity. Sample on floor measured 47 and 1/4" wide and box purchased said unit was 47 and 1/4" wide. Assembling was a nightmare. Finally put together and guess what - - - it was 48" wide (not 47 and 1/4") - had to rip down two newly textured and painted walls and replace with thinner wallboard, texture and repaint. Thought the worst was over --but no, the sink top was 48 and 1/2" inches so I had to gouge out the new walls and slide it in. I did not actually have to do the work but instead my contractor had to charge me an extra $400 dollars for the extra work. This ended up being a very expensive piece of "furniture". Never again will I shop at Ikea. Word to the wise - if you plan on purchasing something that needs exact measurements - do not trust the label on the box or measuring the floor sample - you must actually measure what is inside of the box to be sure the labeling is correct!

Ikea in New York, New York - Delivery mega problem

I placed a order at Ikea Brooklyn, paid for delivery and assembly. Ikea store gave me delivery window time and the delivery company gave me another. The day of the delivery, that was all day because of the two windows, nothing arrived. I called the delivery company and they said that the delivery was waiting for 25 minutes and left. After trying both companies, Ikea and Urban Express Assembly. The solution was that I have to pay for another delivery, even though, I was home all day waiting. Results for me to miss another day at work, where I get pay plus pay $100 again...great

IKEA FLATPACKED THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE

So frustrated! After having bought a console table from Ikea in Croyden 2 and half weeks ago, we got home to find that there was a crucial piece of wood missing in the pack, so have been unable to finish building the table. Have called Customer Service on numerous occasions and each time I get a different reply as to why they haven't delivered this crucial piece yet. "Yes it's on it's way". "No, there's been a backlog". I'm fed up and don't know where to go next to sort this out!!! Ikea can kiss my patronage goodbye!

Ikea in Oak Brook, Illinois - Stay Away From the Bolingbrook, IL, Store

My husband and I were looking for a round table to entertain guests. We had been all over looking for one and were so excited when we came across one here. It seemed odd, but there was no number to go pick it ourselves, it said write down the name and color and ask them for help. So we did, the only question the man had was how tall was the base, 29 or 48"? We told him 29", he printed out a "C&C Full Serve", we paid and then we waited. About 20 minutes later, a woman comes out and says it shows 6, (yes she said 6), bases in stock but there isn't a one there. I asked for the floor model base since it appeared they were discontinuing it, the sticker had said last chance. She said she'd check and walked away. 10 minutes later she came back and said there was no way they would give me the floor model; she swore it wasn't being discontinued and that they needed the floor model to continue selling it. She said it would take 2 weeks to get a new one in. I asked for her manager and she walked away and made a call. Another 10 minutes goes by and she finally came back with a cart. She said she called the warehouse manager down and he looked for the parts and found them. Hmm, weird, but okay, we're so happy to have the table that we were so desperately looking for! Our party was saved...or not. When we got home, the base wasn't the same as the model we looked at. It doesn't even fit our table top, it's too small. The base in the store was round, this one is crossed. I'm not sure who didn't know what they were doing, the first guy who didn't give a round option, the lady who claimed they were out of stock or the warehouse manager that found them- probably all three. I'm just sorry I let my excitement get in the way of getting these peoples names. We will never shop at this location again. I'm not even sure I'll go to the Schaumburg one after this.

Ikea delivery ***

First delivery arrives smashed in boxes. Probably Parcel Force fault. So ring Ikea. They say they will send out replacements. Sounds good. Day of delivery - no delivery. Or the day after. Thanks Ikea for keeping me in the *** house for two days. Rang them today to see what's happening - the order is blocked apparently they think i haven't paid the goods. Pigs from Sweden, methinks. What a pain, never buy online from Ikea again. I will never use them again for services like this, and I am only typing this bit to get my complaint to 100 words. Is this enough?

Ikea in Leesburg, Florida - Customer Service Representative was rude!

My husband and I have spent 5 hours putting together the dresser we got from IKEA. We got the wrong part, we got a medium size drawer where we needed a large size drawer. I called customer service. The representative told me that I could bring it back to the store and they would exchange it. I told her it was an hour drive and we shouldn't have to drive down there when it was their screw up, they should deliver it. I was really aggravated by the representatives attitude that it wasn't her problem- in my opinion the customer is always right, so I did say a swear word (which I don't condone but I was really upset) and she said in a horribly rude voice that she would hang up on me if I swore again. Really? How about she just do her job and deal with one swear word and make the customer happy? So I got even more angry and was getting nowhere with her so now I have to drive an hour back to IKEA to switch out a part...nice customer service IKEA!

First the customer is not always right you would know if you worked in customer service. As a Customer Service rep we do not have to deal with a customer who curses us out.

If we feel we are being disrespected we have the right to inform the customer to please stop or we will hang up.Remember we are people too.

Its not our fault you are upset we are there to try to help. If you ask nicely we will try our best to help resolve your issue.

Ikea's customer service leaves alot to be desired. I ended up crying because I was so frustrated.

--Use you local customer help line (usually associated with a TV station). Ikea doesn't want bad publicity.

--try your state consumer representative--usually with the Attorney General's office.

--Did you know that you only have 48 HOURS AFTER DELIVERY to open and inspect every box, bag, part, piece, etc for defects or missing pieces . Remember, Ikea's stuff comes packaged in alot of pieces. Who opens up 20 or 30 boxes within 48 hours? They will allow to you exchange it at the store, but the reason that most people have things delivered, is because they cannot get it home any other way.

100% if you would of been nice about it they would of shipped it out. Keep in mind customer service reps have a lot more power than you think.

First, it is the standard procedure to begin by suggesting the customer bring the pieces back. Don't hold it against her unless you had already explained that you were far away.

I have often arranged mailing pieces back, etc in the case of a customer picking out the wrong hardware, etc. I would also hesitantly ask if you were already angry and believed she was pulling attitude with you or if she really was. If your dresser was packaged incorrectly, of course, it isn't your fault - anymore than it is hers personally. She should still maintain a polite demeanor, however, your profanity may have shocked it out of her.

I will not presume to guess what you do for a living. But, in virtually no profession, is it acceptable to use profanity at the employee. I know I would have a hard time doing the nice, polite thing for someone who swears and is upset at me. You justify that you were "really upset".

If she was unaccustomed to being spoken to that way, why was it not permissable for HER to be upset when she responded? No, you ask her to do her job anyway and make an angry, profane customer happy. Where should she even start? "The customer is always right." Wow, you know, I cringe when I see that.

Not that I don't believe there is a time and place for that sentiment, I do. I just think the average shopper today wants the lowest price, the shortest drive AND be treated like they are high rollers. I can only think of a handful of brands today that still give that kind of customer service and really, they charge for it. Bottom line: You got the wrong piece.

You should have received a replacement, perhaps paid S&H for it to be sent so you didn't have to drive.

Whatever. Your real complaint is that this cust svc rep wouldn't swallow how you spoke to her and gave it right back.

IKEA does not stand behind their merchandise

Shocked to find my local IKEA no longer refunds your money on returns but forces you to take a gift card - even on completely new, still-in-the-box merchandise that you bought the day before and for which you have a receipt. Worse, when I questioned this policy I was patronizingly told, "The law doesn't require companies to take anything back, so really by offering a gift card we are *adding value*" *** I'm in Finland, where service sucks as a rule so I avoid shopping as much as possible. I used to think Ikea was a little better and had decent customer service because it was following an international model. But no, at a store where defective merchandise is the rule rather than exception, I am expected to bare all the risk of shopping there and can expect to be out of luck if something goes wrong. Good thing my spending money there is optional "added value" that I guess they don't need! Sorry, a store credit is not the same as cash back. I might come back if you give me back my cash, and then again after that amount is spent, but the store credit will be used or gifted once, and never again will I come back!

IKEA missing hardware comes from... Sweden!

I made a 1600$ purchase in Ikea Tempe, and when I was mounting my brand new table I noticed that a hardware came defective. Not a simple screw, but one of those hardwares make exclusively for Ikea furniture. I sent them a spare request and was informed, by email, that I should wait up to 9-14 business days! It happened in October 6th. Today (October 14th) I decided to call to know about the status of my request, and I was informed that I should wait, because the hardware is coming from... SWEDEN!!! I made my purchase in Tempe and I live in Tucson, for God's sake! I sent them ALL the informations about the purchase (receipt number, date, contacts etc), but still they claim that, since I cannot come back to the store (1.5 hours driving), I should wait. The small hardware, according to the customer service, is coming directly from Sweden to my house. In the mean time, I have a half-mounted table, legs-up, in the middle of my dining room. I cannot believe that such a BIG company like IKEA can be so "***". Oops! The *** person here is... me! >:-(

I am not sure I understand your complaint. You have a justifiable amount of frustration about the table taking up space and being half-finished.

I completely agree. However, IKEA clearly prints the product's country of origin on each label. When I left IKEA a year ago, we still only manufactured a handful of products in the USA. If you purchased IKEA Stockholm products, you may very well have picked out something that is only from Sweden.

Whether you paid $1600 or $16, if the part wasn't available, it wasn't available. You deserved an update (call, email, postcard) regarding your part request. Honestly, this doesn't seem that different than a car part from a foreign car. I would love to hear if you received it on time.

Sweden's working calendar varies slightly, of course, so I hope it wasn't too late. In my experience that particular division was very good at follow up.
